This was a design experiment. I have always wanted to laser etch a pair of shoes directly from the top while the laser head projects its beam at a consistent height (z-axis). In other words, I wanted to see how the etched graphic would translate with the laser projecting its beam in and out of focus as it moves across the shoes .
